Oral Surgery
Oral surgery may be required to diagnose or treat injuries and diseases in the mouth. Biopsies can determine the presence of oral cancer or tumors which may then be surgically removed. Tooth extractions prevent or treat damage caused by impacted wisdom teeth or crowding. Surgical contouring of the jaw or gum line can correct jaw alignment problems, TMJ, malocclusion (“bad bite”), or other problems.
The oral surgeons at Dental Health Associates, P.A. are experienced and skilled in all areas of oral surgery, including wisdom teeth, dental implants, and tooth extractions with sedation.
Wisdom Teeth
When wisdom teeth are correctly aligned, wisdom teeth pose no threat to the mouth and may even be helpful. Often though, problems develop that necessitate their removal.
When the jaw is too small to accommodate the extra teeth, they may erupt sideways (impacted), part of the way, or not at all. Improperly erupted wisdom teeth have the potential to damage nearby teeth, bone and roots, and invite bacterial infection, which in turn leads to pain, swelling, jaw stiffness, and other problems. Removal by an oral surgeon is swift and effective.
Dental Implants
Dental implants provide a stable base for replacement teeth that look, feel, and work like natural teeth. With dental implants, a person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat and smile with confidence. Implants can replace one tooth or several missing teeth.
Dental implants are cylinders made of titanium that are surgically implanted into the jaw. The jawbone grows around the base of the implant, while the top protrudes through the gums. Once they are secure in the jaw, the posts serve as anchors for tooth replacements such as fixed crowns and bridges and secure removable dentures.
Tooth-Colored Restorations
Unsightly silver-colored tooth fillings can make an otherwise perfect set of teeth look unattractive. Now there are fillings specially designed to match the natural color of your tooth. Directly bonded, tooth-colored resin fillings are virtually undetectable, so they make a tooth look like new, whether used for small areas of decay or to replace current fillings. When you’re at your regular checkups, we check your restorations, and because fillings do deteriorate over time (and put you at risk for further decay), when it’s time to replace one, we’ll talk with you about this popular, attractive option.
Extractions with Sedation
Nervous or sensitive patients can relax thanks to dental sedation. Patients feel no pain during or after treatment and have little or no memory of the visit. Sedation also allows extraction treatment to be done in a single appointment.
